Welcome! I’m a fiction writer and educator with over a decade of experience helping students of all ages unleash the stories they have inside. A former middle-school English teacher, I’m a graduate of the New Writers Project M.F.A. program at UT Austin, where I received a fellowship from the Michener Center for Writers. My writing for children, teens, and adults has been widely published in literary magazines such as Highlights, AQUILA, F(r)iction, Panorama, Cosmonauts Avenue, and Hunger Mountain and has won the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award, the F(r)iction Short Story Contest, the A. Orr Fantasy Grant, the Patty Friedmann Writing Competition, the Katherine Paterson Prize for middle-grade fiction, the Crerar Science Writing Prize, and other honors. I’ve also had four novels longlisted for the Bath Children’s Novel Award, three of which went on to make the shortlist.
Currently based in Paris, I’ve taught creative writing at Sciences Po, St. Edward’s University, and the study-abroad institution CEA CAPA. I also teach creative writing at several middle schools, lead fiction workshops through the expat organization WICE, and work with writers of various experience levels to strengthen and sharpen their manuscripts.
